Russia and the Netherlands to step up economic cooperation

At a meeting with Dutch and Russian business representatives in Wassenaar, economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen and the Russian deputy premier, Viktor Zubkov, agreed to step up economic cooperation between their countries.
Opportunities for entrepreneurs
Mr Verhagen and Mr Zubkov want to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, energy, transport, innovation and technology - areas that offer many opportunities to Dutch entrepreneurs in Russia. They also discussed the investment climate, the justice system, the protection of intellectual property rights and the visa regime between Russia and the European Union.
Port of Rotterdam
At the meeting, representatives of the Port of Rotterdam and the Russian port organisation Rosmorport agreed to work towards a strategic partnership on port infrastructure development in the Netherlands and Russia.
Energy
After the meeting, Mr Verhagen and Mr Zubkov signed an agreement in which the two countries pledge to promote research into energy efficiency and sustainable energy. Russia can make major improvements in these areas. NL Agency, an agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation, and the Russian Energy Agency will act as matchmakers between Dutch and Russian universities and institutes for energy research.
